“Spending time for a few minutes each day being awake and noticing is a good way to begin the practice of being present. It is a good way to begin to expand one’s idea of what constitutes a meaningful life. And yet more than this is needed if one is to truly embrace what IS, and to be ‘present in the present’. What is needed is the greater opening of the heart to the one Self that exists within all.

This perception of Unity and Oneness has an opportunity to grow at any moment in which we interact with another soul. It is nourished by an absence of judgment and by a willingness to be open to the deeper levels of who that other might be. Such openness comes from a state of innocence and of childlike grace. It comes from knowing that the ‘other’ is part of the same ‘ALL THAT IS’ as oneself, therefore of one Heart, one Breath, one Life.

The gift of being present as it applies to relationships is that it brings love to every interaction, no matter how small or insignificant. It brings the Divine into every perception, no matter how ordinary. And it brings gratitude into each moment as it unfolds.

As a sense of being present deepens and one’s capacity to ‘notice’ flowers, the deep richness of life and of love can be found everywhere and separation nowhere. In this state, one senses only the One who lives within all. One feels the Essence within every other. Here, consciousness can only affirm the greater life of which it is a part:

I Am and You Are. We are both of the stars and of the dust of the earth. We are both of the rocks and of the sandy shores. We are water and we are sky; we are earth, and we are air. We are the Breath that life breathes through Itself, in a single and continuous song of Creation.”

“…Many do not feel that their presence matters much. Some feel that they are too small to make a difference in relation to how the world works. This is never true. The interconnectedness of life is an everpresent reality. Seed thoughts of one become the catalytic agent for seed thoughts of many. This is how collective consciousness becomes changed - by virtue of the fact that all of life is connected and you are connected to every other soul on Earth. Therefore, never think that your own 'small' contribution does not and cannot make a difference. It can and it does…”

“The sounds of Creation flood through the morning air, celebrating the daily renewal of life connected with light. The light dawns, and the throats of hundreds of birds open up in joy, acknowledging their participation in the new dawn and in the gracious gift of life. Their response is automatic, embedded in the reflexive nature of the physical mechanism that operates within a bird, allowing the vocal chords to respond instinctively to the increasing light.

With human beings it is otherwise. We have a choice to sing or not to sing. We have a choice to celebrate or not to celebrate. We even have a choice as to whether we take life for granted, including its many small daily gifts of place and circumstance, or whether we see it, too, as part of a process of daily renewal, brought about by the graciousness of spiritual light.

What song would emerge from us if we saw ourselves as birds, drawn to respond to the emergence of a new day, drawn to recognize increasing light when it occurred so that we could not help but open our throats to sing in praise of what is pure gift? We cannot, for the most part, think like this yet, for our minds obscure the spiritual truths that are part of our deeper nature, and these minds tell us that on any given day there are many things to pay attention to, and that when we have time, sometime later on, we will appreciate the sheer grace of the day’s dawning.

For this reason, the gift of perpetual renewal of life is one that goes unnoticed by many. And the ways in which life unfolds are not automatically perceived as benevolent or positive, nor are they reflexively perceived as a blessing. In order to make this shift, it would require of us a descent into the deeper part of ourselves, the soul-part that embraces both life and death and sees beyond the immediate concerns of the moment. From that part, we could determine what was really important and unimportant in life, and see, in the presence of our life and of our death, what we might deem valuable.

For we, as human beings, are given the choice to open our throats or to keep them closed, to use our voices in celebration of life, or to ignore the fact that something of great importance and mystery is happening. In the end, as spirit evolves within each human breast and as the deeper truths of self become recalled once again, it will once again be understood that as part of the Oneness of life, we are here to celebrate the light of God which dawns each day, just as the birds do.

And we are here to acknowledge from within our humanity, the sacredness of the daily events of our life, including those that appear to be ordinary. Eventually, we will do this not because we must remember to not take things for granted, but because it is our nature to do so. It is our nature to remember to open our throats and sing.”

Attuning to Inner Truth

GurujiMa

“…There is nothing more important in this time than to know that the truth of who we are is calling to us. It’s calling to us to become it, to live it, and to express it. It’s calling to us to have the courage to be that truth and to be the light that we carry.

In this time when there are so many intense and difficult emotions that are moving through our collective environment and even our personal environment, it’s often difficult to know that the light of truth actually exists as a flame that doesn’t go out, but that remains within each of us as a pointer, an indicator of what we need to pay attention to. And so, in any moment or in any day, that is our task — to believe in the light that we carry, and to orient towards it the way a homing pigeon would orient towards its home, or the way a fish would swim back to its place of birth, or the way a bird would find its nest. We need to have the same relationship with the place that we come from, the Source that we come from. And that relationship involves attuning to the truth that we carry.

We are being called to be this truth. We are being called more deeply than we may be aware to no longer let fear get in our way, to no longer let division within ourselves get in our way. To no longer let frustration and impatience get in our way, or the sense of limitation.

We have challenges to face, of course, but the determination to be ourselves, to live in truth, and to live with a sense of deeper meaning is calling to us every day more strongly. And it’s up to us to listen fearlessly, courageously, with a willingness to make mistakes. With a willingness to take risks. With a willingness to understand that what we do affects everything around us…”

“I look into your eyes and see, there,
where you have been
and what it has taken
for you to be where you now are.

What courage, what willingness to take the noble
path of truth commands your heart.

This truth which compels you to want to be yourself
is a burning fire within you.

It tolerates no falseness, no self-abandonment
in the ways that it once did.

Now, all excuses are becoming transparent
as it commands your heart
to speak plainly,
to live truthfully,
to follow the path that God
has laid out within you.

May this path be blessed.”
